ISO/IEC 20000-1:2018
ISO 20001 is the first and so far the only formal international standard that addresses all aspects of IT service management. ISO 20000 is closely associated with ITIL but narrower in scope and based on achieving the minimal standard's criteria while ITIL offers the simplest to the most complex solutions for IT practices. Link of these two is not of control type but rather conceptual type. Therefore fulfilment of the standard requirements is not directly related to implementation of specific ITIL recommendations.
ISO/IEC 20000 consists of several parts. The first one, ISO/IEC 20000-1: 2018, includes mandatory requirements while other parts contain instructions and recommendations which are not binding but can assist in the implementation of a system for the IT service management.
ISO/IEC 20000 certificate is the confirmation for the company which acquires IT services that a company which owns the certificate is capable of delivering the agreed service consistently at agreed quality. On the other hand for the company that provides IT service, certificate acknowledge that it is capable to manage efficiently the functionality and performance of the services they offere through all IT service life cycles.
